Meet the Child Care Council Staff

Introducing Laura W.

Belinda @ Kids Matter

“Living a happy life entails being with people you love,” said Laura, an Eligibility Specialist with the CCC, serving the residents of Daviess County since July, 2013. It doesn’t take five seconds talking with Laura to determine that her life is centered around happiness. Often, people are reaching for happiness instead of basing their life around it. It’s quite refreshing to talk with someone who has a different perspective on life. Laura seems quiet and shy when you first meet her, but she warms up quickly and has a smile that would light a room. What is the source of that smile? Her one year old son, Adrian, who she said is her world and is what makes her who she is. She attributes Adrian with being the greatest influence on her life as she never knew real love until she held him in her arms that very first time. I quickly learned, during the interview, how true that statement was as Adrian’s name was in almost all of her answers to my questions. Her love for Adrian is such a beautiful, pure thing. She said that she tells her son every single day how blessed she is to have him in her life.

Growing up, Laura lived all over Kentucky due to her father’s work. He is a Methodist Minister. Her mom was a stay at home mom and made many sacrifices so Laura and her brother could have better lives. Laura said, “… without a doubt, they are my rocks. Without them, I would not be who I am today.” In order for Adrian to have that same special bond with Laura’s parents, she often spends weekends visiting with them. Laura wants her son to know that family is defined as the people in your life that make it worth living. What a great reminder for us all.

Laura is a Western Kentucky University graduate who holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. Laura said she has many close friends who are single mothers and they spend a lot of quality time doing mommy/kid things together.  Her favorite food is pizza. She gets excited just thinking about all that ooey gooey cheese.

Laura said she loves her job because, “… it makes me feel like I’m doing something important with my life. Living life is more than just material things. Life is about the people you interact with every day and the opportunities you are given to make their lives, and yours, better.” I don’t know about you, but I think Adrian has a great mom who has the important things in life all figured out and can teach him those same values for a happy healthy life.
